Slack Space Living
SLACK SPACE - A SPACE THAT ALLOWS FOR THE APPROPRIATION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION BY USERS OVER TIME, THUS PROVIDING FLEXIBILITY IN USE. THESE SPACES USUALLY CONTAIN BASIC ARCHITECTURE THAT IS USED TO SUGGEST POTENTIAL FORMS OF PROGRAM.
Slack Space Living is a densification model with a focus on establishing a framework for diversity and relationships between people and infrastructure while incorporating programs that are flexible, adaptable and respond to changing demands at a multitude of scales.
Born out of an idea seen in Flexible Housing (Till & Schneider), Slack Space living utilises the notion of the slack space and the concept of the grid to create a framework that allows for an inherent flexibility at 6 scales. At each of these scales slack space has been utilised to provide a flexible, adaptable, and communal living experience for residents.
