Wangun Amphitheatre

Wangun means Boomerang in Gunaikurnai and as part of the Slow Recovery studio, I worked with the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) to design a concept for the Wangun Amphitheatre located on Gunaikurnai Country.

My proposal looks at the designing of the amphitheatre stage and seating while then allowing for moments of agency by engaging our More Knowledgeable Others (MKO) as part of the process. The project starts with the allocation of a larger performance space and two smaller flexible areas, one looking out onto the water and one closer to the existing building. A paved groundscape acts as an all-access connection between existing, stage and seating. Finally, the project aims to leverage MKO knowledge and allows for moments of agency. Some possible examples of this may be a Gunaikurnai native garden and farm and the design and construction of the male & female performers’ facilities.
